Sax alto, soprano, baryton, composition, arrangement, musique électronique, enseignement.
Gaël Horellou débute sa carrière de musicien de jazz en 1992 avec le batteur bas-normand Jean-Benoît Culot.
De 1994 à 1997, il est membre du Collectif MU avec lequel il remporte le concours du festival de Vienne en 1995 et le concours de jazz de la Défense en 1996. À la même periode, il participe à la fondation du Crescent où il partage la scène avec de nombreux artistes dont Charles Bellonzi, Luigi Trussardi, Clovis Nicolas, Wayne Dockery, Eric Lelann, Steve Grossman, Peter King, Ricardo del Fra, etc…
En 1997 il co-fonde avec Philippe Garcia, le groupe Cosmik Connection, projet électro-jazz, lauréats Talents MIDEM 2001 et « Découverte electro » du Printemps de Bourges en 2000. De très nombreux concerts en France et à l’étranger (notamment Jazz à Montréal en 2000 et 2001, MEG en 1999, Jazz à Vienne en 2000, Berchida 2010,etc…). 4 albums à ce jour.
En 2000, il intègre le sextet de Laurent de Wilde, l’accompagne sur toutes ses tournées et collabore sur ses albums « Time For Change » et « Stories ». En 2004 il co-signe avec Laurent de Wilde l’album « Organix ».
De 2000 à 2003 il joue dans le quintet de Luigi Trussardi (tournées et enregistrement du disque « introspection » en 2003).
Parallèlement, il participe à plusieurs enregistrements d’albums Drum’n’Bass (UHT, DJ Volta, DJ Ben… ) en même temps qu’il se produit en live drum’n’bass solo sous le pseudonyme Dual Snake.
En 2002, il fonde le groupe NHX avec des musiciens de jazz et de jazz-rock progressif (Yoan Serra, Philippe Bussonnet, Emmanuel Borghi et James Mac Gaw). Le premier concert de NHX sera enregistré et commercialisé par DTC Records sous le titre eponyme « NHX ». Un deuxième album en studio cette fois voit le jour en 2006 « II ».
En 2003 Gaël Horellou fait la rencontre de Barry Harris lors d’un stage au conservatoire de La Haye. Depuis il étudie regulièrement avec le maître du Be-Bop en Europe ou aux États-Unis.
En 2007, il réalise un bel album nu-jazz a mi-chemin entre acoustique et composition à l’ordinateur « Explorations » (DTC records/La Baleine)
En 2008 Gaël Horellou réunit un quartet avec Jean-Sebastien Simonoviez,Francois Gallix et le batteur americain Ari Hoenig. Le groupe enregistre un double album live au sunside a Paris « Pour la Terre » (DTC records/Harmonia Mundi).Il s’en suit une tournée en 2009 et 2010 (Nuit du Jazz à Caen, Hot club de Lyon, PocoLoco à Clermont-Ferrand, Parc du Tabor à Rennes, etc…). Le groupe participe au programme « Chambers music america » et donne un concert à Jazz Gallery à New-York en mai 2010.
Depuis 2002, Gaël Horellou se produit régulièrement en trio sax/contrebasse/batterie avec Géraud Portal et Antoine Paganotti ou Philippe Soirat.De très nombreux concerts dans des petits lieux à Paris et province et aussi des festivals (Cervione 2010, Jazz sous les pommiers 2010, etc). Trois albums en trio à ce jour sur le petit label (label bas-normand) « Live 2008 », « Segment », « Plo ».
Depuis 2006, il joue avec le groupe transition du pianiste compositeur Jean-Sebastien Simonoviez. Album « a different way » (2007).
En 2010 il produit en solo un album entre musique répétitive et jazz « Travels », toujours sur le petit label.
En mars 2011 il enregistre en sextet un album live au sunside dans la tradition du jazz des annees soixantes avec David Sauzay(sax tenor) ,Michael Joussein(trombone),Etienne Deconfin(piano),Geraud Portal(contrebasse) et Philippe Soirat (batterie).album « Live! » sortie decembre 2011 (DTC records/La Baleine).La sortie officielle de l’album a Paris en mai 2012 au New Morning.
De 2010 à 2013 il Co-organise un stage pedagogique suivi d’un festival de jazz dans l’Aude à Fontiers-Cabardes en juillet : « Jazz à Fontiers » .
Depuis 2010 Gael horellou donne regulierement des masterclass de Jazz et d’improvisation (CNR de Caen et d’Annecy,Chamalieres,CNR de Paris,Arpej a Paris,etc…)
depuis aout 2012, il est directeur pédagogique du stage de Jazz au Festival des Cuivres du Monastier sur Gazeille.
Depuis 2008 il intervient en tant que formateur a Cifap dans le cadre de la formation crée par Dume Poutet « Fusion electro sur Ableton Live »
Juin 2011,enregistrement d’un nouvel album pour Fresh Sound « Time after time » avec Perico Sambeat au saxophone alto,Alrbert sanz (piano),Nicolas Moreaux (contrebasse) et Antoine Paganotti (batterie).Sortie en avril 2013.
Avril 2012 enregistrement à la Rodia (SMAC de Besançon) d’un album de jazz-electro : « Synthesis » avec David Patrois au vibraphone,Geraud Portal à la contrebasse et Antoine Paganotti à la batterie.sortie de l’album (DTC records-Harmonia Mundi) en juin 2015,concerts au Triton (Les Lilas) le 6 fevrier et au New Morning (Paris) le 4 juin.
Depuis 2012 Gael Horellou anime regulièrement les « After-hours sessions » du Duc des Lombards.Dans ce contexte il est amené à rencontrer et à jouer avec de nombreux musiciens internationaux parmi lesquels : Jeremy Pelt,Marcus Miller,Roxy Coss,Rodney Green,Jonhatan Barber,Jalil Shaw,Eric Alexander,etc…
Janvier 2013:enregistrement en live au Duc des Lombards a Paris de l’album « Legacy » en quintet avec Etienne Déconfin (piano),Viktor Nyberg (contrebasse),Antoine Paganotti (batterie) et en invité exceptionnel le saxophoniste americain Abraham Burton.
Tournée de sortie d’album en fevrier 2014: New Morning,Radio-France,Poco-Loco (Clermont-Ferrand),Champs Libres (Rennes),Theatre de Lisieux,Comedie de Ferney-Voltaire,Conservatoire de Caen,Sunset (Girona/Espagne),etc…
Juin 2013 enregistrement à New-York d’un nouvel album en quartet en studio pour le label Fresh Sound Records.Le disque « BrOoklyn » sortira en novembre 2014.Avec Ari Hoenig (batterie),Etienne Déconfin (piano) et Viktor Nyberg (contrebasse).

Mai 2014 enregistrement à l’Arrosoir (Jazz-Club de Chalons-sur-Saone) en residence/concert d’un album en trio avec Fredéric Nardin à l’orgue Hammond B3 et Antoine Paganotti à la batterie.
Le disque « ROY » sort en septembre 2014 sur le Petit Label.Dates régulières en France fin 2014/2015/2016.
Juin 2014 enregistrement à New-York d’un nouvel album éléctro « Nasty Factorz » en duo avec Ari Hoenig.Concert à Nublu (Manhattan).
Decembre 2014 New-York – concert en quartet à Something Jazz à l’occasion de la sortie de l’album BrOoklyn. Concert en duo electro avec Ari Hoenig « Nasty Factorz » à Nublu et du projet solo « Travels » à Shape Shifter’s Lab (Brooklyn).
Janvier 2015 Bogota (Colombie) – concert de « Travels » projet saxophone solo et electronique au Matik Matik.
Fevrier 2015 Ile de la Reunion – residence/concerts/enregistrement du projet « Identité »,metissage de jazz et de maloya,musique traditionnelle de la Reunion avec Florent Gac à l’orgue et 4 musiciens reunionnais: Vincent Philéas,Emmanuel Félicité,Jerome Calciné (percussions/voix) et Nicolas Beaulieu (guitare).Egalement intervention pédagogique au Conservatoire à Rayonnement Regional de St Pierre.
Juin 2016 tournée (Carcassonne,Lyon,Geneve,Marseille) et enregistrement en studio du trio orgue avec Nardin et Paganotti pour le Petit Label.Sortie prevue janvier 2017.
Juillet 2016 Paris – 2 concerts et enregistrement studio en quintet avec Jeremy Pelt (USA),Etienne Déconfin,Viktor Nyberg,Antoine Paganotti pour le label Fresh Sound New Talent.Sortie prévue fin 2017.

Gaël Horellou
Born August 22nd, 1975
in Caen (France)
Saxophonist with a classical and jazz background, his career started in 1992.
From 1994 to 1997, he is a member of the Collectif Mu* and helps founding the Crescent Jazz Club where he shared the stage with experimented guests (Charles Bellonzi, Luigi Trussardi, Clovis Nicolas, Wayne Dockery, Eric Lelann, Steve Grossman, Peter King,Ricardo del Fra…).
In 1996, together with KPT’N PLANET (Philippe Garcia on drums) he founded the group Cosmik Connection **, an electro-drum’n’jazz fusion laboratory quickly joined by Jérémie Picard (aka Jahbass).
In 2000, he joined Laurent de Wilde sextet and followed him on tour and in the studio for the Time for Change and Stories albums. He also continues to put his sax on electronic music recordings (UHT, DJ Volta, DJ Ben…) and starts to produce his own solo performance with a live electro-drum’n’bass show that he plays under the pseudonym Dual Snake.
In 2002 he founded the group NHX, a new electro-instrumental laboratory with Yoann Serra on drums and 3 musicians who played in Magma Philippe Bussonnet (bass), Emmanuel Borghi (fender rhodes) and James Mac Gaw (guitar).
In 2004 he collaborated with Laurent de Wilde on the Organics*** album composition. An electro-jazz quintet with Yoann Sera and Philippe Bussonet.
He presently plays with Yoann Serra and François Gallix inside Jean Sébastien Simonoviez’s Transition Sextet.
His first drum’n’ bass album came out in 2005 (Dual Snake) and an electro-acoustic one in 2006 (Explorations); both are on DTC Records the label that will release the new Cosmik Connection album:
“Grand Panache !” in September 2006.
In 2003 Gaël Horellou meets Barry Harris during an internship at The Royal Conservatory of the Hague. He’s been since studying regularly with the master of bebop in Europe or in the United States.
In 2007, he produced a beautiful nu-jazz album halfway between acoustic and computer composition “ Explorations ” (DTC Records/ La Baleine).
In 2008 Gaël Horellou builds a quartet with Jean-Sebastien Simonoviez, Francois Gallix and the American drummer Ari Hoenig. The band records a double live album at the Sunside in Paris “Pour la Terre ” ( DTC Records/ Harmonia Mundi). Follows a tour in 2009 and 2010 ( Night of Jazz à Caeun, Lyon Hot Club, Sunside in Paris , PocoLoco in Clermont-Ferrand, Tabor Park in Rennes etc). The group participates at the “Chambers Music America” and gives a concert at the Jazz Gallery in New-York in May 2010.
Since 2002, Gael Horellou has been performing regularly in trio sax / bass / drums with Geraud Portal and Antoine Paganotti or Philippe Soirat. Lots of concerts in small venues in Paris and the provinces and also festivals (Cervione 2010, Jazz under the apple trees in 2010, etc …) Three trio albums to date on the small label (Bas-Normand Label) « Live 2008 », « Segment », « Plo ».
Between 2006 and 2011, he plays with the transition band of the pianist composer Jean-Sebastien Simonoviez. Album “A different Way” (2007), “Transition Cosmic Power” (2012).
In 2010 he produced a solo album between repetitive music and jazz « Travels », released in 2011 always on the small label.
March 2011 he recorded a live album in sextet at the Sunside in the jazz tradition of the sixties with David Sauzay (tenor sax), Michael Joussein (trombone), Etienne Deconfin (piano), Geraud Portal (bass) and Philippe Soirat (battery). Album released in December 2011 (DTC records / La Baleine). The official release of the album in Paris in May 2012 at the New Morning.
Between 2010 and 2013, he’s been co-organizing a pedagogical internship followed by a jazz festival at L’Aude in Fontiers-Cabardes in July: « Jazz at Frontiers. »
Since 2010 Gael Horellou regularly gives Jazz master classes and improvisation (Caen CNR and Annecy, Chamalières, CNR de Paris, ARPEJ in Paris, etc …)
Since August 2012, He’s referent for the Jazz Internship at the Festival of Brass of the Monastier in Gazeille.
Since 2008 he acts as a trainer at Cifap through the formation created by Dume Poutet « Merging electro on Ableton Live ».
June 2011, recording of a new album for Fresh Sound « Time after time » with Perico Sambeat on the alto saxophone, Alrbert Sanz (piano), Nicolas Moreaux (bass) and Antoine Paganotti (drums). Released in june 2013.

Gael Horellou a etudié pendant 15 ans avec Barry Harris et travaille
aujourd’hui avec sa propre methode pour la pratique de l’improvisation de jazz.
Gael Horellou est intervenu en tant que pédagogue dans les établissements d’enseignements suivants: CRR Paris,CRR Caen,Arpej,Ecole de musique de Chamalières,Ecole de musique de Inca (Espagne),Académie du jazz du Monastier sur Gazeille (2012,2013),PRMA Reunion(2013,2014,2015),CRR St Pierre (Reunion),Festival Jazz à Fontiers-Cabardès,CRR Annecy
Stages ouverts à tous les instruments et pour tout niveau (minimum 3 années d’instrument).
PROGRAMME INDICATIF STAGE de JAZZ
2 axes principaux de travail :
-comprendre/entendre (harmonie theorique,outils melodiques,progressions usuelles,repertoire,etc…)
-le langage (gammes,arpeges,chromatismes,construction de phrases,etc…)

JOUR 1 :
– exprimer les progressions harmoniques grace aux outils melodiques de Barry Harris
– Repertoire des progressions usuelles du Jazz . S’habituer a penser en degrés.
– elements d’harmonie : les 3 fonctions harmoniques et substitutions (triton,diminuees et autres)
– elements de langage : surroundings de B.Harris et repertoire de phrases courantes du Jazz.
JOUR 2 :
– reharmonisation du Blues,du Rythmn change et analyse structurelle de standards.concept de factorisation/developpement des marches harmoniques.
– modulation : deplacement du centre tonal.
– outils melodiques verticaux pour faire sonner l’harmonie.
– le mineur .
– elements de langage : fin de phrases
JOUR 3 :
– gammes a 8 notes (les gammes « be-bop ») et chromatismes (half steps).notes d’appui.La contrainte du temps reel dans l’improvisation et la recherche de solutions. »viser une note ».l’oreille rythmique et l’assise.
– pratiques des gammes.
– developper la conscience de la tonalite,tons voisins,relatif,dominantes liées a chaque degre de la gamme et modulations de passage.exercices pratiques.
– mentaliser des schemas melodiques,transposition diatonique.elements personnels de langage.
JOUR 4:
– elements de langage.releve et analyse de chorus (Parker,Stitt,Coltrane,Mc Coy,Cannonball,etc…).
– arrangement a 2/3/4 voix .
JOUR 5:
-pentatoniques/hexatoniques
-harmonie etendue,jeu out,polytonalite,systemes de superpositions d’accords et notion de trajectoire.transposition chromatique,patterns.
